From the UWEC Tip Sheet:

A group of music and theatre arts students — including several from western Wisconsin — will travel to New York City March 17-24 to meet with professionals in different areas of the performing business, including opera singers, Broadway performers, people who work in TV and theater, agents and teachers. The New York City immersion experience will introduce aspiring young artists to the culture of the one of the leading artistic centers of the world. The students will learn how to find auditions and teachers, prepare for auditions, and learn to consider their own career as a business, all while learning to navigate a career in the arts while making the transition from the Midwest to a huge metropolitan area. While in New York, the students will attend different types of shows that feature performers at various stages of their careers. They will attend a student recital at Juilliard, an opera at the Metropolitan Opera, a Broadway show, an off-Broadway show and a concert at Carnegie Hall. The students also will meet with Sara Olson, a UW-Eau Claire alumna who works in TV and theater in New York. Each student also must make an appointment with a professional in their field of interest for an interview, lesson or coaching. Music faculty members Dr. Mitra Sadeghpour and Kenneth Pereira will lead the immersion project. Student participants are Jordyn Beranek, Rice Lake; Stephanie Dietz, La Crosse; Abigail Doering, Altoona; Tomas Dominguez, Mukwonago; Marie Gustafson, Wausau; Emily Klink, Baraboo; Nicole Korbisch, Birnamwood; Jennifer Lange,Eau Claire; Meagan Seubert, Eau Claire; Britney Shattuck, Curtiss; Leisa Sunier, Kenosha; and Evan Wilberg, Anoka, Minn.
